Terms & Conditions

By creating an account or using Deutsch — the lessons, vocabulary, practice exercises, and everything around them — you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with something here, please do not use the platform — or better, write to us first; we are happy to explain any clause.

To use Deutsch you must:

• be at least 13 years old;
• register with information that is true and yours — your real name and an email address you actually control;
• be legally able to enter into this agreement where you live (if you are under 18, that usually means a parent or guardian is okay with you using the platform).

• One account per person. Your progress through lessons and practice belongs to you — sharing an account muddles it and is not allowed.
• Keep your credentials safe. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Do not share your password or the one-time verification codes we email you — we will never ask for them.
• Tell us if something looks wrong. If you suspect someone else has accessed your account, reset your password and contact us right away.

Deutsch exists so people can learn. Use it for that, and we will get along fine. What you must not do:

• break, probe, or overload the platform — no attempting to bypass authentication, no automated scraping of lessons or vocabulary, no flooding the servers;
• abuse account systems — no bulk-creating accounts, no requesting verification or password-reset codes for email addresses that are not yours;
• subscribe someone else’s email address to the newsletter;
• impersonate another person or misrepresent who you are;
• use the platform for anything unlawful, or in a way that interferes with other learners.

We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules — see “Ending your account” below.

Nobody owns the German language — der, die, and das belong to everyone. What we own is the way we teach it: the lessons, Bengali explanations, vocabulary collections, practice exercises, design, and code that make up Deutsch. They are protected by copyright and belong to us or our licensors.

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-commercial licence to use this content for your own learning. That means you may not:

• copy, republish, or redistribute lessons, vocabulary lists, or exercises — on other websites, in apps, or as printed collections;
• sell access to the content or use it commercially;
• remove notices that say the content comes from Deutsch.

Quoting a short excerpt to share with a fellow learner, with a mention of where it came from, is of course fine — that is how learning spreads.

As you complete lessons and practice exercises, we save your progress to your account so you can pick up where you left off, on any device. How we handle that data — and everything else we know about you — is covered by our Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms. The short version: we collect only what the platform needs, and we never sell it.

Our newsletter delivers one German word, explained, once a week. It is entirely optional: you receive it only if you subscribe, and every issue contains an unsubscribe link that works with one click. Subscribing does not create an account, and deleting your account does not automatically unsubscribe you (nor the other way round) — each is its own choice.

Deutsch is currently free to use. We work to keep it available and improving, which means:

• features may be added, changed, or retired as the platform evolves — lessons get rewritten, exercises get better;
• there may be brief downtime for maintenance or reasons outside our control;
• if we ever introduce paid features, the free core described here will not silently become paid — we will tell you clearly and in advance.

We put real care into our lessons, but Deutsch is provided “as is”. We cannot promise the platform will always be available or error-free, and — much as we would like to — we cannot guarantee any particular learning outcome. Whether you pass your Goethe-Zertifikat depends on your practice, not just our exercises.

If you spot a mistake in a lesson — a wrong article, a shaky Bengali explanation — please tell us. We fix errors quickly and gratefully.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of (or inability to use) Deutsch — for example, lost data, lost opportunities, or a missed exam. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, such as liability for fraud or for harm caused by our own gross negligence.

• You can leave any time. Delete your account whenever you wish; your personal data is then removed as described in the Privacy Policy.
• We can act on abuse. If an account breaks these terms — particularly the acceptable-use rules — we may suspend or close it. Where reasonable, we will explain why and give you a chance to respond.
• Some sections survive. Clauses that by their nature should outlast the account — content licence restrictions, disclaimers, limitation of liability — remain in effect after it ends.

As Deutsch grows, these terms may need to change. When they do, we will update the “last updated” date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will notify you by email or with a notice on the site before they take effect. Continuing to use the platform after a change takes effect means you accept the new terms.

Questions about these terms — in English or Bengali — are always welcome. We would rather clear something up than have you guess.
